June 9th, 2008 by travel

If you live in or are traveling to Miami and have kids, there is one place you need to take them. The Miami Children’s Museum. It is a wonderful attraction where you can take your kid to play and learn. Continue reading to find out a little bit about the museum and what makes it such a great place to visit.

The Miami Children’s Museum was originally founded in 1983 but opened up a brand new building on Watson Island on September 7, 2003. The huge new facility has under its roof galleries, classrooms, a gift shop and even a 200 seat auditorium. The purpose of the museum is to simply enrich the lives of children. It does this by offering interactive exhibits and programs designed to introduce children to art and culture.

So what kind of exhibits do they have. One exhibit is called the Castle Of Dreams. Children can climb into a two story sand castle and examine sands from around the world. Another exhibit is called Pet Central. In this exhibit kids can see how to care for pets and can find out what the perfect pet for them is. Yet another exhibit is called the Television Studio in which children can become a news anchorman or anchorwoman, a weather forecaster or even a television camera operator. This just scratches the surface of what is available at the museum. There are dozens of other exhibits for children to explore and learn from.

If you would like to visit the Miami Children’s Museum you can find it at 980 Macarthur Cswy. For information on current hours and admission prices you can call the information line at 305-373-5437.

Winchester Tourist Information

June 7th, 2008 by travel

Winchester has been a popular tourist destination for over 300 years. Once, a favourite summer residence for London’s aristocracy and leading socialites, Winchester is now a year-round destination for people from around the world.

Winchester was once the ancient capital of Anglo-Saxon England; it was the capital city of a region of England called Wessex. The city’s rulers spent large sums of money on building churches, palaces, parks, and of course, the Cathedral. The city is rich in history and many famous figures from English history have visited, lived, worked and died in Winchester. The city is now the administrative capital of the county of Hampshire - a county that many regard as being the quintessential English county, with rolling hills, downs, pretty villages and crystal clear rivers.

Winchester has many attractions for the visitor. The first port of call should be Winchester Cathedral. The cathedral is probably England’s most beautiful. It’s setting, just off the High Street, is idyllic, being surrounded by a park with tree-lined avenues. Construction of the present day cathedral began in 1079. There is a small admission fee but one really should go inside to appreciate the beauty of the cathedral. Also, you can see the tombs, of some ancient Kings of England as well as the tomb of Jane Austen, the famous novelist. Winchester Cathedral Choir is recognized as one of Britain’s leading cathedral choirs, both for its singing of the services and in concert. The Choir comprises sixteen to twenty choristers and twelve lay clerks, whose numbers are augmented when larger forces are required. If you have the chance, you should go to one of their concerts.

St Cross Hospital is a short, but beautiful walk, from the centre of town. St Cross was never a hospital in the modern sense of the word; rather it has its name from the word ‘hospitality’. St Cross was founded in 1132 by Bishop Henri du Blois. The Bishop is quoted as saying that the establishment would be for `thirteen poor men, feeble and so reduced in strength that they can scarcely or not at all support themselves without other aid

Come Visit Ocean City Maryland

June 3rd, 2008 by travel

Some of my fondest memories when I was a youth were our yearly trips that my family would take to Ocean City. They were always full of fun and relaxing and some great times on the boardwalk. Although there are a lot of different places that you could choose for your family vacation, Ocean City offers many things that other places only have one or two of those choices. For family fun or singles nightlife there aren’t many places that have what they have to offer.

First thing that I can really think of that you would enjoy is the boardwalk. It is really one of the best in the world and offers so many diverse things for you to choose from. Starting in the early morning you could rent a bike and ride up and down the boardwalk while the ocean breeze keeps you cool. As the afternoon progresses you will no doubt want to try some of the famous boardwalk fries that they have to offer. They are salty and fantastic. You can also enjoy the amusement park and the games that line the boardwalk. If you are skillful at throwing darts or tossing rings you might even walk away with a nice prize! Then in the evening as the sun drops and the temperature begins to cool the nightlife really begins. At certain times of the year there are so many people that you can hardly walk around, but there are a lot of stores and pubs that you can drop into out of the crowd and relax. You could also find a bench and watch the people go by.

Another thing that is great about Ocean City is all the water that is around. You can swim in the surf, or watch the sun rise over the Atlantic. They also have some great clam digging and fishing in the area. Boat rentals are available for the day or by the hour and you can really catch some great fish in the bay. I know that one of my favorite meals of all time is when we caught some fresh flounder and cooked it on the grill that evening.

Not too far of a drive from Ocean City are some other great places to visit, such as Rehoboth or Assateague Island where the wild ponies are. I saw them one time when I was fishing out in the ocean off the Island. They are really a site to see. Rehoboth Beach offers another boardwalk that is a little quieter in the evenings if Ocean City gets to bee too crowded. I hope that you will make a trip to Ocean City to enjoy the sun and fun. It really is a city with a lot to offer if you take the time to visit.
