Antarctica’s Scientific Community

May 31st, 2008 by travel

Antarctica can be considered as a research haven because of the fact that the people who “inhabit” the area mainly do scientific research. In addition to this, the interest that has been generated in the scientific community with regard to the discovery of the holes in the ozone layer resulting from global warming has made Antarctica one of the research “hotspots” in the world. As a result, various research teams have set up operations in Antarctica. The good news is that the Antarctica Treaty, which was signed in 1959 by different countries, has set the guidelines on how research is to be done in Antarctica. However, in support of the treaty, various scientific organizations have been set up to coordinate the research that is done in Antarctica. One of the more notable organizations is the Scientific Committee on Antarctic Research (SCAR).

What does SCAR do?

The main task of SCAR is to initiate, develop, and coordinate the different types of scientific research that is undertaken by different groups in Antarctica. In addition to this, the organization is also responsible for supporting researches that determine the role of Antarctica with regard to global issues like climate change. Usually, SCAR is the organization that gives advice to the Antarctic Treaty Consultative Meetings, which is done regularly to monitor how the treaty is being observed by the signatories. Apart from advice on how the treaty is being observed, SCAR also provides advice to other organizations with regard to conservation issues based on the research that has been undertaken in the region.

How do they do it?

To be able to handle the big responsibility of coordinating the massive research that is done in Antarctica, the organization has been structured in a way to facilitate efficient and effective coordination among researchers. This is because the organization has been divided into different research groups, data management groups, and standing committees, making coordination among the different fields of research easier to do. Some of these groups include the Standing Scientific Group on Geo Sciences and the Joint Committee on Arctic Data Management.

Given the huge amount of research that is done in Antarctica in scientific fields, organizations have been set up to coordinate research in support of the Antarctica Treaty. One of the more notable groups that have been charged with the task of coordinating research is the Scientific Committee on Antarctic Research (SCAR), which has made headway not only in coordinating the studies done in Antarctica, but also in providing very important information to other international organizations as well.

Antarctica provides detailed information on Antarctica, Antarctica Cruises, Antarctica Travels, Antarctica Vacations and more. Antarctica is affiliated with Alcatraz History.

Free Online Marketing Tools, Tips, for Travel Agents

May 30th, 2008 by travel

Travel Agents have had it hard every since the Airlines realized they could communicate directly with the consumer and sell airline tickets online.

Once the online travel site business pattern proved successful, the airlines cut travel agent’s commission to an average of $10.00 per ticket. The Travel Agent has been left to fen for themselves after providing excellent service for the airlines for decades. Those agencies servicing Corporate accounts have done much better then the small personal travel agencies that provided services to the neighborhood and surrounding businesses.

Travel Agents must become familiar with online marketing solutions.

The first task would be to develop an SEO web site. (keyword: seo) It does not have to be fancy. It has to be functional and have good content.

The second task would be building a client e-mail database. This is one of the most important steps to your online marketing program. Once you can contact your clients using e-mail, at the click of a mouse, you are on your way to real online marketing. (Always check your spelling) You will need a privacy policy (keyword: privacy policy) and a web based e-mail marketing service. This will cost around $10 to $25.00, starting out.

The third task might be witting travel articles to be distributed online (free) to web content sites. This is the single most important online marketing task.

Your next step, before contracting to get your own online booking engine would be to advertise online. One excellent method is to “buy traffic” to help build up your ranking. You can purchase target traffic for as little as $10.00 per month. (keyword: buy traffic) Provide a “sign-up” on your web site for a monthly newsletter or more information.

Don’t expect to sell travel on a visitors first or second visit unless they are existing clients. Give new clients time to get to know and trust you. Do not be intimidated by the mega online travel sites. If you have done your homework, then you realize which wholesale travel suppliers they are using and you can use a different one.

Another excellent free online marketing tool is to use well know classified ad sites, such as LiveDeal, Craigslist, Backpage and a new one Travel 360 at www.travel360degrees.com.
